Backwater Tourism
Another season in Kerala, known as God's own country because of her immense natural beauty, begins and the Backwaters Tourism sphere becomes alive. In the season which stretches upto March, there will be a flow of tourists to the districts Alleppey, Quilon & Kottayam. The Resorts near the backwaters also become alive. To enjoy Backwaters tourism, more than 100000 tourists come to Alleppey per year, 65% of them are foreigners.
Out of the 180 House Boats in Kerala , 160 are in Alleppey. Some of them are Ayurveda Houseboats, equipped with ATM.  Tourists are happy to enjoy backwaters during the day & enjoy staying at Houseboats during the night. 
 

There are  Resorts on the Beach. Prices are nominal in the big resorts and still smaller In the small resorts.  In traditional homes, you can stay as a "Paying Guest" . These traditional homes are everywhere, in Ernakulam, in Trichur & in Guruvayur.

Not only House boats, but catamarans are also available for tourists. Foreign tourists  enjoy touring in catamarans.
The number of Resorts in Alleppey is increasing. Also the number of Houseboats. More entreprenauers are attracted to the Tourism Industry. Many are employed as a result.
 

Conference Tourism has attracted many companies. Director Board Conferences were arranged by the House boats owned by the Puikkattil Group. The Oberoi Group took over the development of the Parthiramanal Island. Such capital investment will trigger develpment in Kumarakom and other beach areas.

There are so many beaches in Kerala. The Cherai Beach, the Fort Kochi Beach etc are famous for tourist attractions.

Cherai Beach is on Vypeen Island and is a lovely sight at night. 

We made a tour of the Vypeen Islands on 15/04/2010, the beginning of the Vedic New Year. 

I celebrated the Hindu New Year with a trip to Vallarpadam.I was accompanied by my friend, Ajith, who is the Devaswom Auditor.  From High Court Junction, we took a bus to Vallarpadam. First it traversed Bolgatty Island and then we reached Vallarpadam. We went to the Vallarpadam Church, which was neatly mainatined. Work is still in progress at the ICTT and then we took a bus to Vypeen Island, where a 60,000 crore investment is in the offing. We took a bus to Munambam harbour and the bus traversed Cherai, Nayarambalam, Jnarakkal etc. We had a plan to go to Vypeen Jetty and then take a boat to Ernakulam mainland, but then we abandoned it as we reached Munambam. From Munambam Boat Jetty, we took a boat to Azheekode, which is just 5 kms from Kodungalloor. From Kodungalloor, I came back to Trichur.
 
Within one year the ICTT will be operational. We saw the 8.82 km railway route, from Edappilly. The Puthuvaippin LNG Terminal will be operational by 2012.

As Backwater Tourism develops, the Alleppey Tourism Cooperation Council is organising Catamaran race. The tourists are excited by the race amongst the catamarans. The Tourism MInister of Kerala, Mr Venugopal declared that a race will be organised at Punnamada Backwaters every January.

Guruvayur, the Holy Temple Town & the world's largest Elephant Sanctuary
