The Birthday of the Lord

How can the Birthless and the Deathless, the Eternal Principle, have a birthday? This philosophical problem is solved thus. In Bridal Mysticism, where the Self is the Lover, Self is the Bride, a human form is given to the Divine. This is anthropomorphisation. He is the Consort in the form of the Ishta Devata or Tutelary Deity ! The Birthday of the Lord of Guruvayur falls on the 8th lunation, Ashtami, on the asterism Rohini !

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

There is only one Book which can claim a birthday of its own. It is Narayaneeyam, which was consecrated to the Lord on Vrischika 28th and this day is observed as Narayaneeyam Day.  Melpathur was not only a poet and  scholar, he was an astronomer, astrologer and mathematician as well, belonging to the Kerala School of Astronomy, Mathematics and Astrology !
