                                                                The Sevenfold Point Classification, Sapta Varga

                                                               

Sapta Varga means the Sevenfold Point Classification. Its aim is to find whether planets are getting more benefic or malefic points, known as Shubha Adhikya and Papa Adhikya.

 
 
These are the Six Divisions, Shad Vargas 

 

 
Kshetra - 30 degrees -  This is the Zodiacal Division of Signs of 30 degrees each..
 
Hora -     15 degrees -   Hora means Hour. The Rishies postulated that a day is made up of 24 Horas or Hours ( Chathurvimshathi Smritha ). 15 degrees in Astronomy and Mathematics = One Hour  ( Ardha Rasi Bhaveth Hora ). 30 degrees /15 = 2 hours and so for the 12 Signs of the Zodiac and we get 12*2 = 24 Horas for one day.
 
 
Drekkana - 10 degrees. Decanate. A Zodiacal Sign of 30 degrees is divided by 3 and we get decanates of 10 degrees arc.

Navamsa - 30/9 = 3 degrees and 20 minutes
 
Dwadasamsa 30/12 = 2.5 degrees

 

 
Sapta Varga, the Sevenfold Division

 

When Trimsamsa is added to it, we have Seven Divisions or Sapta Varga.
 
Trimsamsa = 30 /30 = 1 degree
 
 
As each sign of the Zodiac is owned by a planets, so too these subdivisions are owned by planets, benefic or malefic.

The Sapta Varga Division mainly aims to find out whether a planet, for example, Jupiter gets benefic or malefic points.
