Two more teams have been added to IPL IV - Pune & Kochi
Pune franchise was bought by Sahara Adventure Sports for $370 m and Kochi was snapped up by Rendezvous Sports World for $333.3 m !
The Sahara Gp bid for Nagpur, Ahmedabad and Pune, but opted finally for Pune.
There will be 94 matches in IPL IV, 34 more than the present 60. The bidding was extremely competitive.
IPL has definitely made BCCI richer. The broadcasters are smiling, the players are smiling, the hotel owners are smiling and the fans arent complaining either.
IPL is a huge success and IPL has come to stay.
BCCI’s profit has touched 700 crores, 25% higher than last year. This year’s adspend is expected to be 7 billion INR, up from 5 billion. Modi has brought in a flurry of mobile companies, Google’s Youtube and a general entertainment channel too on board. Sports Marketing has kicked off in India !
A strange phenomenon is observed at 0800 PM in India. Traffic comes down, as all are glued to the TV sets. Here we find the ferocity of Y Pathan, the subtle guile of Sachin and the 150 km speed of Tait, Steyn, Nannes and others. Kumble’s magnificent flippers and leg breaks to boot ! This is cricket at its best !
More crowds are thonging in to see world class players. It is a boost to young Indian talent like M Bisla, A Rayudu, Saurabh Tiwari & others. Now 22 more players will get chance and India will be sporting one of the best cricketing teams in the world in the years to come !
SetMax, the satellite channel who is covering IPL, is expecting revenues to the tune of 650 crores this year. It sold 80% of its inventory even before IPL III began !
If the first year of IPL was a revealation, the third is one is a revolution. One India Infoline expert opined that popularity is only becoming bigger as almost one billion people all over the world get chance to watch the highest cricketing skills being displayed.
It may be true that there are a lot of cricketers who are not here, maybe due to national commitments or injuries, but their hearts and minds are here. Who wants to miss the IPL action?
Salim Malik said, when the Pak- Bangla series was
on, that he was watching IPL !
If the last eight days are of any indication, the fans are not done. They still
want part of the IPL cake. The demand
for complimentary tickets are only rising, stands are packed for every match and
the huge crowds before the TV sets are not disappearing !
Just see one week or two and IPL will become part of our lives. Interest is bound to peak when IPL enters its final phase !
Well done, Lalit Modi !
As the world watches in amazement, one question confronts everybody ! Who makes the mega bucks ? The BCCI ? The players ? The TV channel ? or the Franchisees ? The answer is ALL and it is win win for all !
One expert revealed that the inaugural match on Mar 12, notched up a TVR of 10. In 2008, it was 5 and it went up to 7 in 2009.
One India Infoline expert revealed that the gross profits of all teams will go upto 400 million INR this year.
But one has to understand that Brand Building is huge and it is happening for all those who want to build their brands ! It is Marketing at its Zenith !
Hasnt Preity Zinta, Shilpa Shetty and others become international ?
( Kerala cricket fans became ecstatic as Kochi got in. You have to pardon my enthusiasm, as I am from Kerala )
Sreeshanth thrilled
Sreeshanth said he was thrilled at the inlcusion of Kochi. He said he was ready to play for Kochi, being a Malayali. But he said he doesnt want to become the captain of Kochi. Said Punjab is a good side, and he would love playing for Kochi !
Here we give a list of the 8 sites of the teams in the Indian Premier League. and their logos. May they become the Manchester Uniteds and the Chelseas of Cricket !
Each team will have a pool of 16 players. It is mandatory that each team should have a minimum of four under-22 playersand a maximum of eight foreign players. Four players must be from that City, where the team is based.

Lalit Modi, the IPL Commissioner, the mastermind behind IPL. He converted BCCI into a Billion Dollar Corporation. From a $ 67 million corp, BCCI was converted into a 1 billion dollar Corporation. Spending much of his youth learning Sports Marketing in the US, Modi ruthlessly exploited the market. Television deal with Nimbus brought in $ 612 million, team and shirt deals with Nike & Sahara brought in 641 million, and a deal with Zee 219 million. He is at the moment engaged in converting India's 22 international stadiums into 'state of the art' facilities. $ 327 million has been earmarked for this purpose. Michael Arthurton says he is the most important cricket administrator in the world today!

Conflicts with the English County Board
As the IPL season coincided with the English, the ECB and the county clubs raised their objections and said they will not issue NOC to the players. Dimitri Mascarenhas is the only English player playing at the moment with IPL.

The ECB also fears that IPL may upset their plans of hosting their T20 Championship, which will be called the EPL or the English Premier League. EPL would feature 21 teams in 3 groups of Seven and will be occurring at the end of the summer season. Allen Stanford, the brains behind the Stanford 20/20 Cup in the West Indies, has been invited by the ECB to help them start the EPL. Stanford 20/20 Cup runs twice in the West Indies.
