Lalit Modi, the IPL Commissioner, the mastermind behind IPL. He converted BCCI into a Billion Dollar Corporation. From a $ 67 million corp, BCCI was converted into a 1 billion dollar Corporation. Spending much of his youth learning Sports Marketing in the US, Modi ruthlessly exploited the market. Television deal with Nimbus brought in $ 612 million, team and shirt deals with Nike & Sahara brought in 641 million, and a deal with Zee 219 million. He is at the moment engaged in converting India's 22 international stadiums into 'state of the art'  facilities.

Conflicts with the English County Board

As the IPL season coincided with the English, the ECB and the county clubs raised their objections and said they will not issue NOC to the players. Dimitri Mascarenhas is the only English player playing at the moment with IPL.

The ECB also fears that IPL may upset their plans of hosting their T20 Championship, which will be called the EPL or the English Premier League. EPL would feature 21 teams in 3 groups of Seven and will be occurring at the end of the summer season. Allen Stanford, the brains behind the Stanford 20/20  Cup in the West Indies,  has been invited by the ECB to help them start the EPL. Stanford 20/20 Cup runs twice in the West Indies.

Conflict with Pakistan Cricket Board

Many players from the Pak Cricket team, decided to join the rival Indian Cricket League. Two players, Naved ul-Hasan and Mushtaq Ahmed, joined the rebel League.
